Voting Precincts


Precincts are the basic geographical areas for organizing and administering elections. They are established by the governing body of each city or town, or by the county board in unorganized territories.

The list below summarizes major precinct changes since the 2016 general election as of July 18, 2017. Some of these, and many other smaller changes, are as a result of municipal boundary changes.

  • Hennepin County, City of Golden Valley:
    • Renamed precincts to remove letter designating school district splits
  • Otter Tail County, City of Fergus Falls:
    • Created W-2 P-3 for annexed territory
  • Stearns County, Saint Joseph Township:
    • Deleted P-2 after entire area was annexed by Waite Park
    • Rename remaining precinct

The list below summarizes major precinct changes between the 2014 general election and the 2016 general election. Some of these, and many other smaller changes, are as a result of municipal boundary changes.

  • Anoka County, Linwood Township:
    • Created new precinct P-2
  • Beltrami County, City of Bemidji:
    • Changed name of W-3 to W-3 P-1
    • Created new precinct W-3 P-2 for annexed territory
  • Carlton County, Cities of Carlton and Thomson:
    • Merged Thomson city into Carlton city
  • Chippewa County, City of Raymond:
    • Created new precinct for annexed territory
  • Clay County, City of Moorhead:
    • Changed name of W-1 P-1 to W-1 P-1A
    • Created new precinct W-1 P-1B
  • Hennepin County, City of Maple Grove:
    • Created new precinct P-24
  • Hennepin County, City of Minneapolis:
    • Created new precincts W-2 P-11, W-9 P-9, W-10 P-10
    • Adjusted precinct boundaries between W-3 P-8 and W-3 P-12
    • Adjusted precinct boundaries for W-13 P-2, W-13 P-3, W-13 P-4 and W-13 P-5
    • Created new precincts W-13 P-11, W-13 P-12 and W-13 P-13
  • Hennepin County, City of Minnetonka:
    • Renamed precincts to remove letter designating school district splits
  • Isanti County, City of Isanti:
    • Created two precincts, P-1 & P-2, from single city precinct
  • Itasca County, Liberty Unorganized Territory:
    • Changed name to reflect dissolution of Liberty Township
  • Marshall County, City of Warren:
    • Changed precinct names to reflect no longer electing city council by wards
  • Mower County, City of Austin:
    • Created W-1 P-3 for annexed territory
  • Ramsey County, City of New Brighton:
    • Adjusted precinct boundaries citywide
    • Changed name of P-1A to P-1
    • Changed name of P-1B to P-2
    • Created new precincts P-5, P-6, P-7, and P-8
  • Ramsey County, City of Saint Paul (2015):
    • Adjusted boundaries of W-6 P-5 and W-6 P-6
    • Deleted precinct W-6 P-14
    • Changed names of other precincts in W-6
  • Ramsey County, City of Saint Paul (2016):
    • Created new precinct W-1 P-17
    • Adjusted boundaries of W-6 P-5 and W-6 P-9
    • Deleted precinct W-6 P-13
  • Ramsey County, City of Shoreview:
    • Changed name of P-1S to P-1
    • Deleted P-1N
  • Saint Louis County, City of Eveleth:
    • Deleted P-3 and adjusted precinct boundaries
  • Saint Louis County, City of Rice Lake:
    • Changed name to reflect incorporation of Rice Lake Township
  • Scott County, City of Savage:
    • Adjusted precinct boundaries citywide
    • Created new precinct P-9

  • Blue Earth County, City of Mankato:
    • Created new precinct W-4 P-10A
  • Carver County, Township of Laketown:
    • Deleted P-2 after territory was annexed by Chaska
    • Changed name to remove P-1 from name of remaining precinct
  • Dakota County, City of South Saint Paul:
    • Changed precinct names to remove ward designation
  • Dodge County, City of Blooming Prairie:
    • Deleted precinct after territory was detached back to Westfield Township
  • Dodge County, City of Byron
    • Created new precinct P-2 following annexation
  • Hennepin County, City of Eden Prairie:
    • Changed name of P-19 to P-19A
    • Created new precinct P-19B
  • Hennepin County, City of Minneapolis:
    • Created new precinct W-1 P-10
    • Created new precincts W-3 P-10, W-3 P-11, and W-3 P-12
    • Created new precinct W-5 P-9
    • Created new precincts W-12 P-11 and W-12 P-12
    • Created new precinct W-13 P-10
  • Itasca County, Township of Iron Range:
    • Deleted P-1, P-2 and P-3 to reflect annexation by Taconite
  • Itasca County, City of Taconite:
    • Changed precinct name to P-1
    • Created P-2 for part of annexed territory
  • Ramsey County, City of Maplewood:
    • Deleted P-16
  • Stearns County, City of Rockville:
    • Deleted P-2
    • Changed name to remove P-1 from name of remaining precinct
  • Washington County, Township of Stillwater:
    • Deleted P-2
    • Changed name to remove P-1 from name of remaining precinct
