SAINT PAUL — Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon today received a writ from Governor Mark Dayton ordering a special election to be held for Senate District 35 on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. The special election is being held to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of State Senator Branden Petersen. A special primary election, if necessary, will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016.
The candidate filing period for the Senate seat begins Tuesday, December 8, and ends Monday, December 14, at 5 p.m. Candidates may file their candidacies for this office with the Anoka County Auditor, or at the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State, State Office Building in St. Paul. The candidate withdrawal period ends at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15.
Candidates and their supporters are reminded that in addition to filing their candidacy for office as described above, that campaign committees must register with the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board, www.cfboard.state.mn.us no later than 14 days after the committee has raised or spent $750.
