SAINT PAUL — Today, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon delivered testimony entitled “AI and Elections: A State and Local Perspective” to the US Senate Committee on Rules and Administration. Simon was invited to testify by committee chair Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
"Artificial Intelligence is not a threat to American democracy in and of itself, but it is an emerging and powerful amplifier of existing threats," said Sec. Simon.
"All of us who touch the election process need to be watchful and proactive – especially as the 2024 presidential contest approaches."
Sec. Simon 's testimony called for a multilevel approach to the challenges posed by emerging AI technologies, advocating for federal government and the private sector to work alongside state governments to prevent the creation and amplification of dangerous election disinformation.
