SAINT PAUL — Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon issued the following statement in response to the passage of the federal omnibus appropriation, which included $380 million for election security, signed into law earlier today:
"The security of our elections systems is vital to protecting our vote,” said Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon. “I am pleased that Congress has voted to secure our elections by appropriating $380 million for election security. These funds, which will be distributed to the states by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, will enable Minnesota to continue our efforts to enhance the security of our elections systems, both at the state and local levels. I am especially grateful to Senator Klobuchar for her tireless support of the mission to safeguard our elections.”
Under the law, these funds must be distributed to the states, through the United States Election Assistance Commission, within 45 days.
