SAINT PAUL – More than 1,000,000 businesses – and counting - have been reached by the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Minnesota Business Snapshot. The Minnesota Business Snapshot is a voluntary, five-question survey that allows business owners to self-report economic and demographic data.
“The Minnesota Business Snapshot is a win-win for businesses and consumers by providing easily accessible economic and demographic information that can foster new partnerships and drive consumer choices,” said Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon. “Over the past eight years, more than 680,000 businesses have seen the value in sharing their economic and demographic information.”
Since September 2016, when the Minnesota Business Snapshot was created, 604,519 new businesses have been registered. The survey is offered to businesses as they file an original registration and annual renewals and/or reinstatements. If a business owner answers the survey during their renewal or reinstatement, the business information in the survey is updated. On average, 68% of businesses complete the survey.
The Minnesota Business Snapshot asks Minnesota business owners about their workforce, industry, and revenues. The survey was created in partnership with business owners, business organizations, non-profits, and researchers from across the state. The complete list of survey questions and response options, along with information on how to order data, is available at sos.mn.gov/snapshot.
