SAINT PAUL, Minnesota — In response to the Minnesota Legislative Auditor’s memo regarding the online voter registration application, Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie stated:

“We appreciate the thoughts and comments of the Legislative Auditor in regard to our online voter registration tool. We look forward to further discussions about the system and how it is helping to modernize Minnesota’s voter registration process and how it was built with safety and security at top-of-mind. This tool is saving costs, minimizing inaccurate records and reflects the integrity of the state’s strong voting system.”

Since the introduction of online voter registration in Minnesota on September 26, 869 applications have been submitted for new voter registration or updating of existing registration. The deadline to pre-register for the November 5 elections is 5 p.m., October 15.

According to the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State, the online voter registration tool has resulted in:

  • 869 total applications.
  • 489 registration updates — due to voters’ address or name changes. Reflecting the experience of other states with online registration, the vast majority of transactions are registration updates.
  • 10 new voter registrations.
  • 218 applications are currently being processed.
  • 52 submitted registrations could not be processed because of incomplete or unverifiable data on applications.
