WHAT: As part of the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State’s tradition of “Civic Saturdays” at the State Fair, Secretary of State Mark Ritchie will be available to meet and speak with visitors about Minnesota government, civics, and other topics. Civics Saturdays, held August 24 & 31, celebrate youth involvement in democracy by introducing students, teachers and parents to civic-focused resources and organizations.
Additionally, representatives from the Minnesota Disability Law Center, Kids Voting St. Paul and Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society will be on hand to discuss their organizations and opportunities.
Registered Minnesota voters will be able to check their voter registration status and eligible voters will be able to register to vote. The pre-registration deadline is October 15 for the many municipal office and school board elections across the state on November 5.
Visitors also will be able to get the new 2013-2014 Blue Book Pocket Edition, ideal for students and those interested in civics and Minnesota government. Visitors also may pick a “Vote in Honor of a Veteran” lapel pin, and practice casting a ballot by voting for their favorite State Fair food and Minnesota sports teams.
