OFFICE OF THE MINNESOTA SECRETARY OF STATE*** NEWS RELEASE ***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASECONTACT: Patricia Turgeon(651) 201-1332 House District 19A Special Primary Election is Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 29SAINT PAUL, Minn.—January 28, 2013—Secretary of State Mark Ritchie today reminded voters that the special primary election for House District 19 is Tuesday, January 29. “It is very important for voters in House District 19A to vote on Tuesday because they will decide who will be on the special election ballot,” said Secretary Ritchie.The House District 19A candidates that will be on the special primary election ballot on January 29 are: Timothy Strand (Democratic-Farmer-Labor), Karl Johnson (Democratic-Farmer-Labor), Robin Courrier (Democratic-Farmer-Labor), Clark P. Johnson (Democratic-Farmer-Labor), Allen Quist (Republican) and Tim Gieseke (Independence).A special primary election serves a different purpose than a special election. For partisan races, a special primary election narrows the field of candidates for the three major political parties: Republican, Independence, and Democratic-Farmer-Labor to those who will be on the special election ballot. On Tuesday, January 29 most polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Minnesota has Election Day registration, which allows voters to register to vote at the polls. Unofficial special primary election results will be posted after the polls close at 8 p.m. on election night at www.sos.state.mn.us. Additional voter information is available at www.mnvotes.org.The State Canvassing Board will meet to certify the House District 19A special primary election on Thursday, January 31 at 1:30 p.m. in room 400 North of the State Office Building in St. Paul, Minnesota. State Canvassing Board members are: Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, Chair; The Honorable Alan C. Page, Associate Justice, Minnesota Supreme Court; The Honorable Wilhelmina M. Wright, Associate Justice, Minnesota Supreme Court; The Honorable Denise D. Reilly, Judge, Fourth Judicial District; and The Honorable Ivy S. Bernhardson, Judge, Fourth Judicial District.
