Secretary of State Mark Ritchie Thanks Minnesota’s Election Officials
ST. PAUL, Minn.—Nov 5, 2012— Secretary of State Mark Ritchie today thanked Minnesota’s local election officials for their hard work preparing for and administering tomorrow’s election. During statewide elections, nearly 3 million Minnesota voters go the polls to select leaders for all levels of our government. Our state can handle this high level of voter turnout because of the 30,000 Minnesotans who serve as election judges during a statewide election to ensure that voters can cast their ballots efficiently and with confidence.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you and thank you for making our state’s election system a national model of excellence. Thousands of township, city and county election staff work long hours, before, during and after the election to make sure that each vote is accurately counted,” said Secretary Ritchie. “I encourage every eligible voter to go to the polls tomorrow and cast their ballot.”
It is no coincidence that Minnesota traditionally leads the nation in civic engagement and tops the list for voter turnout. Our election system maintains its reputation for excellence due to the professionalism of our state’s election administrators combined with the dedication of civic-minded citizens who participate in the democratic process by volunteering to help get the vote out, to work on political campaigns or to become candidates for office. “After the New Year, I look forward to traveling throughout our great state asking election judges and local election officials for their input on how to further improve our election system,” said Secretary Ritchie. “I will then share their ideas with the members of the legislature and work with them in a bi-partisan manner to continue to strengthen our excellent election system and protect the right vote.” ###
