Tomorrow’s Special Elections In Senate District 59 and House District 61B
Online Polling Place Finder Available at www.sos.state.mn.us

St. Paul, Minn.—January 9, 2012—Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie today reminded voters to use “Poll Finder” to locate their polling place for the Senate Districts 59 and House District 61B Special Elections being held tomorrow, Tuesday, January 10.

“It is easy for voters to locate their polling place by using this online application,” said Secretary Ritchie. “Voters can find the polling place finder and other voter information on the homepage of our website.”

The Senate District 59 vacancy was created when State Senator Lawrence J. Pogemiller was appointed by Governor Dayton to be the Director of the Office of Higher Education. Candidates on the ballot in Senate District 59 are Ben Schwanke (Republican) and Kari Dziedzic (DFL). The vacancy in House District 61B was created when Representative Jeff Hayden was elected and sworn in to serve as the Senator for District 61. Candidates on the ballot in House District 61B are Susan Allen (DFL) and Nathan Blumenshine (Respect).

Polling locations on Election Day will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Extended absentee voting in person will be available at the Minneapolis City Hall and the Hennepin County Government today, Monday, January 9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information contact the Hennepin County Auditor at: http://www.hennepin.us/Electionsor the Minneapolis City Administrator at: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/elections/.

Voters may register to vote on Election Day with proper proof of residence. More information about absentee voting or registering to vote is available at: www.mnvotes.org. Additional information about these Special Elections is available at www.sos.state.mn.us.

“It is my hope that all eligible voters in Senate District 59 and House District 61B will go to the polls tomorrow and participate in these Special Elections that will determine who will represent them during this next legislative session,” concluded Secretary Ritchie.
