Senate Districts 46 and 61 Special Elections to be Held October 18, 2011

- Candidate Filing Period Begins July 27

 

St. Paul, Minn.—July 26, 2011—Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie today received and filed two writs from Governor Mark Dayton ordering special elections to be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.  The special election in Senate District 46 will be held to fill the State Senate vacancy caused by the passing of Senator Linda Scheid.  The special election in Senate District 61 will be held to fill the State Senate vacancy caused by the resignation of Senator Linda Berglin.  Two special primary elections, if necessary, will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. 

 

The candidate filing period for both Senate District 46 and Senate District 61 begins Wednesday, July 27, 2011 and ends Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 5 p.m.  Candidates may file with either the Hennepin county auditor or the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State in St. Paul.  The candidate withdrawal period for both Senate Districts ends at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2011.
