Secretary of State Mark Ritchie Announces 2011-2012 Blue Book Dedication on
Civil War Sesquicentennial Day—May 18

SAINT PAUL, Minn.—May 6, 2011—Secretary of State Mark Ritchie today announced that the 2011-2012 Edition of the Minnesota Legislative Manual known as the “Blue Book” will be dedicated on Civil War Sesquicentennial Day during a program held in the Capitol rotunda at noon on Wednesday, May 18. The 2011-2012 “Blue Book” commemorates the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War and is filled with Minnesota-related Civil War history and trivia. Governor Mark Dayton, former Governor Albert H. Quie and others will speak during the Blue Book Dedication.

In addition to the program in the rotunda, a Civil War Sesquicentennial Day event will be held at the Capitol from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will include: Capitol Civil War tours; an historical presentation in the Supreme Court chamber; Civil War re-enactors; a display about Cass Gilbert, the architect for the State Capitol; three Civil War cannons that are associated with the famous 1st Minnesota Infantry Regiment; historical flags and other artifacts. There will also be a Civil War Information Fair with many of Minnesota’s Civil War roundtable groups providing information on additional Civil War sesquicentennial events.

“I would like to invite Minnesotans to visit our beautiful State Capitol on May 18 to learn about our state’s Civil War history. It is my hope that the Civil War history contained in this new edition of the Blue Book will help facilitate renewed interest in the war that defined us as a nation.” said Secretary of State Ritchie.
