Senate District 66 Special Election to be Held April 12, 2011

- Candidate Filing Period Begins March 11


St. Paul, Minn.—March 10, 2011—Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie has received and filed a writ from Governor Mark Dayton ordering a special election to be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 to fill the vacancy in the office of State Senator for Senate District 66 caused by the resignation of State Senator Ellen Anderson. A special primary election, if necessary, will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2011.

The candidate filing period for Senate District 66 begins Friday, March 11 and ends on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 5 p.m. Candidates may file with either Ramsey County elections at 90 West Plato Blvd., St. Paul or the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State. The candidate withdrawal period ends at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011.

“It is important for anyone interested in being a candidate in this special election to know that beginning tomorrow there are only three business days to file your candidacy and get on the ballot,” said Secretary of State Mark Ritchie.
