House District 5B Special Election to be Held Feb. 15-Candidate Filing Period Begins Jan. 14
St. Paul, Minn.-Jan. 13, 2011-Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie today received and filed a writ from Governor Mark Dayton ordering a special election to be held on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011 to fill the vacancy in the office for State Representative for House District 5B caused by the resignation of Representative Anthony "Tony" Sertich. A special primary election, if necessary, will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
"Because Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed on Monday, Jan. 17, it is important for anyone interested in being a candidate in this special election to know that there are only two days to file for this office - tomorrow and next Tuesday," said Secretary of State Mark Ritchie.
The candidate filing period for House District 5B begins Friday, Jan. 14 and ends on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 5 p.m. Candidates may file with either the St. Louis county auditor or the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State in St. Paul. The candidate withdrawal period ends Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 5 p.m.
Candidate and special election information will be posted on the Office of the Secretary of State website at: www.sos.state.mn.us.
