Minnesota's Electronic Real Estate Task Force was commissioned in 2001 and authorized to establish statewide standards for electronic real estate recording in Minnesota. These standards have allowed Minnesota counties to implement electronic filing of real estate documents. Submitters have the option of sending documents electronically to the county, resulting in a more secure transfer and faster turn around then the current paper process.
Legislation was passed in 2008 (Laws 2008, Chapter 238, Articles 2 and 3) that created a permanent Commission to continue on with the development and maintenance of standards for electronic recording of residential real estate documents. In addition, the legislation moved the criteria for electronic recording of documents into the mainstream of Minnesota law, allowing any county to record electronically.
