Minnesota consistently leads the nation in voter turnout. However, 700,000* eligible Minnesota residents are not registered to vote. Nationally, it is estimated that 8 million eligible citizens have not registered.
National Voter Registration Day is an annual civic event created to address this problem. On this day, thousands of organizations and citizens across the nation join together to register voters.
In 2012, 32 Minnesota community organizations reported completing more than 670 voter registrations on that day alone. Nationally, the effort engaged more than 300,000 unregistered voters.
