Minnesota Office of the Secretary of State

The State of Minnesota Office of the Secretary of State (OSS) is currently soliciting applications from counties for grants to defray operating costs of the assistive voting equipment and vote-counting equipment in each polling place for the 2012 election year.

$300,000 has been appropriated from the Help America Vote Act account. $144,000 was awarded in grants in 2010, which leaves $156,000 still available for grants. Grants of up to $300 per polling place may be made until this appropriation is exhausted. Only polling places in existence as of November 4, 2008 are eligible. If the grant requests exceed the appropriation available, the secretary of state shall prorate the grant amounts to each eligible county to match the amount available.

Funds are only available for counties that had fewer than 50,000 voters as of 1/1/2010 and have a current HAVA balance of less than $300 per polling place in existence as of November 4, 2008.

All submissions must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday March 1, 2012.
